A practical guide to evaluating peptide research documentation

Scientific documentation is most useful when it is read in context. This overview explains how to approach laboratory reports, batch records and analytical terminology with clarity.

Start with the question

Before reviewing a document, identify what it is meant to show. A report may address identity, chromatographic purity, quantity, impurities or a different analytical characteristic. One result should not be used to answer a question it was not designed to address.

Match the sample to the record

Look for the sample name, report or task number, batch or lot identifier, laboratory and analysis date. These details help establish what material was examined and how the record relates to the item being reviewed.

Read results in their method context

Numbers have meaning only alongside the method and units that produced them. For example, an HPLC area percentage describes an integrated chromatographic result under specific conditions; it is not automatically a universal measurement of all material in a container.
